Learn to Surf

The awareness of surfing in Kiribati is mostly limited to tourism activities on atolls in the Line Islands. Long term resident and surfer, Chuck Corbett, set up the first surf club in Tabueran (a.k.a. Fanning) Island. Surfing as a sport for all to enjoy is something that has not reached most people in the urban capital of Tarawa and the other 16 inhabited islands of Kiribati. The one thing that is certain is: when the i-Kiribati try it, the often love it!

A principal aim of the Kiribati Surfing Association is to provide equipment and lessons to allow a safe introduction to the sport to be available to as many people as possible. Support and materials will be needed, thus the Association will attempt to gain as much assistance from within and outside the country as possible to meet this goal.
